Norris with best time in the second training session
The World Cup persecutor is at the forefront. Lando Norris drives the best time in the second training session. His team -mate Oscar Piatri, leader in the classification, becomes fourth. It is bitter for an Italian.
Lando Norris, with a best time in the second free training in Monza, attuned himself to the further hunt for team-mate Oscar Piatri in the fight for the Formula 1 World Cup. After his end because of a defect in the McLaren last Sunday in Zandvoort, Norris held his own in the high-speed course with a narrow lead over Charles Leclerc at the home grand prix of his Ferrari racing team.
Not a good day for a local hero
The Monegasse was 83 thousandths of a second slower than Norris, stable colleague Lewis Hamilton came fifth after first place in the first free training session. Carlos Sainz in Williams pushed himself in front of the fourth -placed Piatri. World champion Max Verstappen lined up six in the Red Bull position. Nico Hülkenberg made it to eighth place in the clean, the 38-year-old is the only German driver in the field.
The second training session for Kimi Antonelli was not very gratifying. The Italian, who recently turned 19, came off the route early with his Mercedes and got stuck in the gravel bed. The car had to be recovered with a crane. In the classification, Piatri runs in front of Norris with 34 points before the Italy race this Sunday (3:00 p.m./Sky).
