Hoeneß about national team: Do not break rod over Nagelsmann

Uli Hoeneß also employs the international defeat of the German national team. He says what has to change in German football – and gives coaches advice.

Uli Hoeneß continues Julian Nagelsmann to be the right national coach of the German national soccer team. “Of course he is still the right one, you can’t break the staff here after a game,” said Honorary President of FC Bayern Munich in the anniversary program 30 years of “Doppelpass” at Sport1. The contract of the former Bayern coach Nagelsmann was extended by two years to 2028 at the beginning of the year beyond the 2026 World Cup.

Hoeneß with advice to trainer

The selection of the German Football Association had lost 0-2 in Bratislava against Slovakia on Thursday evening in the World Cup qualification. “We all know that it was not as optimal as you imagined it. But I prefer to lose the first game than the last one,” said Hoeneß.

Like national coach Nagelsmann, he also hopes for a clear increase in performance, but the 73-year-old also has advice: “What I don’t like that many coaches constantly change something. We never play with the same team and is so important in this business.”

Effenberg: dramatic development

Sport1 expert Stefan Effenberg pointed out that the national team had not only lost against Slovakia in the World Cup qualification, but also in the final tournament of the Nations League in summer. There were defeats against Portugal and France. “I already find the development dramatic,” said the former international to the series of defeats.

Hoeneß warned against speaking of the World Cup or even the title. “Germany may be able to do that, but then everything has to fit, but at the moment everything doesn’t fit,” said the long-time Bayern maker. Hoeneß pointed out that you basically have to reflect on the essentials. “We have to talk more about football again in Germany and not about transfers,” said Hoeneß.
