Nagelsmann: Wirtz should start in Liverpool now
Florian Wirtz had a difficult start to the season. After his free kick goal against Northern Ireland, the national coach relies on the fact that his key player is now going up in the club.
After the possibly liberating free -kick goal by Florian Wirtz against Northern Ireland, Julian Nagelsmann hopes for an increase in performance of his “most important offensive player” at Liverpool. “It is important for him that the nodes burst in Liverpool. I hope that he will score a goal and once presented one,” said the national coach after the 3-1 (1-1) national soccer team in the World Cup qualification in Cologne.
Wirtz had no easy start in the Premier League after Bayer Leverkusen’s change of millions. His achievements for Liverpool have so far been rather average, in the last game against Arsenal (1-0) he was replaced by cramps. The away game at FC Burnley is on Sunday (3 p.m.) for the Reds.
At the national team, Wirtz showed a weak performance at 0: 2 in Slovakia. Against Northern Ireland, he does not get all actions until his remarkable free kick goal. In Liverpool, the 22-year-old should now get self-confidence, the national coach hopes.
“If you arrive at a club, it is important that good moments come. I think he has increased in every game. That’s why I told him that he should try something, he should risk something against one and can sometimes lose the ball,” said Nagelsmann from a conversation with Wirtz the day before the international game.
Most important offensive player for Nagelsmann
In the absence of Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz injured for long time, Wirtz “has to take the booklet of action in hand,” said Nagelsmann as the 22-year-old’s leadership role on the offensive of the DFB team. “If Kai is missing, if Jamal is missing, Flo is our most important offensive player.”
