“Something cool”: European champions leave Riga by charter flight
After the BASKETBALLER’s European Championship title, Schröder and Co. go back to Germany. Franz Wagner still wears a souvenir from Sunday.
After a long party night, Germany’s European Basketball Champion left the Latvian capital Riga towards home. With the charter flight BT7714 by Air Baltic, Captain Dennis Schröder and his team went to Frankfurt am Main for around an hour, where a reception and a public party were planned at lunchtime at the headquarters of a sponsor.
Schröder, who is 32 years old today, said at the airport about EM gold: “Of course this is the best gift and the only gift I need.” In addition to the players and the top of the association, the families and occasionally journalists were also on the flight.
“Turkey was strong, but you were stronger,” said the captain of the charter flight immediately before departure. He jokingly asked to do without “Slam Dunks” on the plane.
The national team had won the Riga final on Sunday evening with 88:83 against Turkey and thus ensured the second German European Championship title after 1993. As with Manila’s World Cup triumph two years ago, Schröder was elected as the most valuable player in the tournament. Team colleague Franz Wagner also landed in the top five of the European Championship.
Wagner wore the basketball network around his neck after the final after the final and ran through the airport. Vice President Armin Andres spontaneously commented on the title win in Latvia at the airport with the words: “Something awesome.”
The EM heroes had spent the night after winning the title in a luxury hotel in the old town of Riga. Until the early hours of the morning, Schröder and Co. had celebrated the historical triumph before the players arrived at the airport with sunglasses over the tired eyes. There the players fulfilled a few self -seen in a good mood before going back to the party to Germany.
