The world of figure skating is shocked after the death of two young athletes within a few days. Both Julia Marie Gaiser and Matilda Ferrari were each recorded by a truck and were killed. Gaiser was 23 years old, Ferrari 15 years old.

Gaiser, who was born in South Tyrol in Italy, died on September 11th when she was traveling by bike on the way home from training in Salzburg, Austria. According to reports, an alcohol test by the truck driver was negative.

World Association: “Your laughter and your commitment all touched”

“Julia was more than just a competitor-she was a radiant personality in the figure skating community, who was remembered for her warmth, friendliness and the inspiration that she gave younger figure skaters. Her laughter and commitment touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing them,” said the International Ice Lauf Union (ISU).

Gaiser leaves a gap that could not be filled, it was said by the World Association. “But her spirit and love for this sport will always be remembered.”

Ferrari dreamed of participation in the Olympics

Ferrari died four days after Gaiser – she too was hit by a truck. According to media reports, she was just on the way to school when the accident happened. She “showed great commitment and passion for figure skating,” it said in an ISU position. She dreamed of one day to take part in the Winter Olympics. “

As the “Kleine Zeitung” from Austria reported, Ferrari was traveling with two friends when she wanted to cross a crosswalk. According to witnesses, the pedestrian traffic lights showed red.
