Bitter disappointment
Germany-eight missed the final at the rowing World Cup
Tarte disappointment in Shanghai: The men’s Germany eight fails in the lead and missed the hoped-for finale. It is much better for women.
After a disappointing performance, the German men’s eggs missed the targeted final at the Rowing World Championship in Shanghai. In difficult wind conditions in the heavily occupied lead with the Olympic runner-up Netherlands and the bronze medalists from Paris from the USA, it was only third for the flagship of the German Rowing Association.
Since the third and fourth-placed teams were faster in the other lead, the team around Schlagmann Theis Hagemeister and helmsman Jonas Wiesen surprisingly missed the A final as one of the favorites. The Olympic fourth-as last in 2022 at the World Cup in Racice in Czech-remains only the B final on Saturday (7.49 a.m. CET).
Women succeeds in surprise
“It was not a good race. We got under pressure and then made mistakes. Today we can cry a bit and then we have to restart,” said coach Mark Emke after the disappointment.
In contrast, the women went much better. The German eighth only had to give up Great Britain in his run -up and, among other things, left the United States behind. With second place, the crew around the strike Nora Peuser for the first time since 2009 at a World Cup secured direct moving into the A final on Saturday (9:05 a.m. CET).
