Third Ryder Cup? Captain Donald leaves the future open
Sieg in Rome, victory at the gates of New York: Europe’s Ryder Cup team delivers outstanding achievements under the direction of captain Luke Donald. His answer to the future question leaves everything open.
After defending the title in the Ryder Cup, Luke Donald left open whether he will lead Europe as a captain in 2027. “My answer is: I will enjoy this night,” replied the 47-year-old Brit after 15:13 against the USA when asked about a corresponding question during the press conference. The golf professionals around Rory McIlroy had previously sung “Two More Years” (“another two years”). “I don’t think my heart is going through for two more years,” said Donald. The former number one in the world rankings had already led Europe to a victory in the Ryder Cup in Rome two years ago in Rome.
The professionals made it clear beyond the chants that they consider Donald to be an excellent captain of the European Ryder Cup team. “He is the captain of this ship and he gave us better than I could imagine at someone else,” said Spaniard Jon Rahm. “He put the latte extremely high for future captains.”
Even US captain Keegan Bradley spoke in the highest tones about Donald. “In my opinion, Luke Donald is the best European captain of history,” said the American.
