Extreme athlete
Bremer runs half marathon backwards
Every step has to sit: Emin da Silva dares to have a special challenge at the Bremen Marathon 2025. It is not the first time that he is looking for borderline experiences.
Just running straight ahead is Emin da Silva too boring. At the Bremen marathon on Sunday, the extreme athlete registered for the half marathon – he wants to cover the almost 21 kilometer route backwards and connected eyes. “It will be a clear borderline experience again,” said the 52-year-old. He is accompanied by Saida Silbermann, who should show him the way and protect him from falling. “I have to rely entirely on my running partner,” emphasized the Bremer. They have been training together for almost three months. The goal: “Under three hours would be a top time.”
Runs also completed bouncing
The greatest difficulty in walking backwards is not being able to roll off with the heel. “I’m only on the forefoot,” said Silva. As a result, any uneven place could lead to the fall. “Every step has to sit.” The athlete knows his way around with unusual runs: in 2024 he topped the ten-kilometer run at the Bremen marathon backwards backwards on both legs. He also ran in the salsa step or bouncing on one leg.
He dedicates his actions to non-profit purposes, this year it is the garbage collection campaigns of “Cleanupyourcity”. “I run a lot in the city area, so I see a lot of garbage lying around. I want to draw attention to this problem,” he said.
