World Cup qualification
Nagelsmann has to improvise due to illnesses in the DFB team
Important caps are pending for the DFB team. But preparation for this is made more difficult by illness -related failures. Nagelsmann nominates a player.
The start of the important World Cup qualification week with the games against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland does not run as desired for national coach Julian Nagelsmann. Due to a flu infection, top striker Nick Woltemade was initially unable to travel to the regular district of the German national soccer team in Herzogenaurach as planned.
On Monday evening, Nagelsmann also had to readjust with the goalkeepers. Noah Atubolu was nominated because regular goalkeeper Oliver Baumann complains about nausea. It was open whether the 35 -year -old Hoffenheimer could train with the team on Tuesday. Atubolu was already on call.
The 23-year-old was to arrive in Franconia on Monday evening. It is part of the A-Team’s contingent for the first time. Atubolu is considered a future hope, in summer he was still number one of the DFB juniors at the U21 European Championship.
Baumann will definitely hope to be fit quickly. Because the first game on Friday (8:45 p.m./ARD) in Sinsheim against Luxembourg is a real home game for the Hoffenheim goalkeeper.
DFB international matches: For the time being, no post-nomination for Woltemade
Nagelsmann did not do a post -nomination for Woltemade for the time being. It is currently open whether and when the 23 -year -old attacker from Newcastle United can travel. In Jonathan Burkardt von Eintracht Frankfurt and Maximilian Beier from Borussia Dortmund, two nominal attackers are still in the national coach’s line -up. The 38 -year -old Nagelsmann had not appointed Niclas Füllkrug.
The national team then scored three days after the home game against Luxembourg in Belfast on Northern Ireland. After the 0: 2 at the start in Slovakia, the DFB team is under pressure in group A. Only the group winner solves the direct World Cup ticket.
