The Spanish defender announced that he will end his professional career at the close of the MLS season. It adds to the departure of Sergio Busquets, confirmed last week.
Jordi Alba will put an end to his career professional once the current Major League Soccer (MLS) season has concluded. The left side of the Inter Miami36, communicated his decision through a video published on his social networks, where he reviewed the main moments of his career and thanked his clubs, teammates and fans for their support throughout almost two decades in elite football.
The announcement comes just a week after that made by Sergio Busquetswho also confirmed his retirement once the tournament ends. In this way, the team led by Javier Mascherano will lose two experienced references and key pieces of the project that sought to position Inter Miami among the most competitive and media clubs in the American league.
“Thanks to you, Jordi. I’m going to miss you a lot. After so many things together, it’s going to feel strange to look to the left and not see you there… How crazy the amount of assists you gave me all these years… Who’s going to give me the back passes now???”, commented Lionel Messi in the Spanish player’s publication.
Trained in the youth divisions of Barcelona, Jordi Alba made his professional debut in 2009 and consolidated his career as one of the most outstanding full-backs in European football. In eleven seasons with the culé first team he won five League titles, one Champions League, four Copa del Rey, five Spanish Super Cups, one European Super Cup and one Club World Cup.
His time with the Spanish National Team also left a mark: he was champion of Euro 2012 and the Nations League 2023. In total, he played more than 90 international matches and scored nine goals with “La Roja”.
