Return of Manuel Neuer?
Nagelsmann criticizes the goalkeeping debate at the DFB
A possible return of Manuel Neuer to the DFB goal has been discussed for weeks. Julian Nagelsmann can no longer hear the debate – and takes a position.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann considers the discussion about a possible return of 2014 world champion Manuel Neuer to the national team to be “not productive” – also with regard to the current number one Oliver Baumann. “Anyone who is human can well imagine that it doesn’t leave them completely indifferent,” Nagelsmann said on the TV channel RTL after the 1-0 win in Northern Ireland and was satisfied with the Hoffenheim player’s performance.
Nagelsmann sees no advantages in the debate about Manuel Neuer
“In the last ten games we haven’t lost any because we had a bad goalkeeper,” emphasized Nagelsmann and made it clear: “We don’t have a goalkeeper problem at the moment. Everything can be completely different in the summer if a lot of things go badly.” In the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen, who is currently injured, Baumann will look after the German goal. In Northern Ireland, the veteran saved the German victory in the final phase.
This discussion is not beneficial for anyone. “I don’t think so for Manu either. For the rest that he needs at Bayern for his undoubtedly good performances. As far as I know, Manu has also resigned. I wonder why we discuss this for three hours every week,” added Nagelsmann.
