The Argentine pilot of Formula 1, Franco Colapintopresented the helmet that he will use from United States Grand Prix with Alpine in honor of the “Argentine Mission” and the three coupes Turin who participated in the 84 hours of Nurburgring in 1969.

According to various media and social networks, the runner from Pillar would have a design inspired by the feat achieved with the five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fangio as team leader.

In the video published by the French team through its official account instagram The 22-year-old’s helmet could be observed closely and from different angles, accompanied by the phrase “looking good” in the description of the publication.

In this way, the player from Pilar will look for his first points with Alpine in the current season in the Circuit of the AmericasGP in which he got his last points in the category while driving for Williams after finishing in tenth position.

What was the “Argentine Mission” and why was it so important?

The objective was to be able to demonstrate the warmth of the country’s automotive industry in one of the most complicated terrains: the “Green Hell” of the Nordschleife German, a place where major repairs would be prohibited.

Each lap of the circuit lasted between 13 and 14 minutes with around 150 corners and 20 kilometers in total in which the drivers could complete shifts of up to an hour and a half, that is, approximately five laps.

Meanwhile, in the early morning of August 20, 1969, three cars left. The first was led by Rubén Luis Di Palma, Carmelo Galbato and Oscar ‘Cacho’ Fangio. And in the second they were on board EDuardo Rodríguez Canedo, Jorge Cupeiro and Gastón Perkins. And in the third they were Eduardo Copello, Oscar Mauricio Franco and Alberto ‘Larry’ Rodríguez Larreta.

After three hours on the track, the Torino 2 and 3 were in first and second place, respectively, before the eyes of everyone who was looking in surprise at what was happening. However, cars 1 and 2 suffered problems along the way and had to abandon the race, leaving car 3 as the only representative.

Although he managed to maintain the lead until the 64th hour, Oscar Mauricio Franco broke the exhaust and had to brake to fix the damage, thus falling to fifth place. By the morning of the last day, the third Torno had managed to place fourth and rekindled the hope of achieving the podium, but when the Stewards detected a new problem with the exhaust, it vanished.

Despite not having achieved victory, the performance of the vehicles, especially the second and third, showed everyone the capacity of Argentine motorsports and the solidity of the local industry.
