Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool coach? “Yes. Theoretically it is possible”
Jürgen Klopp has actually announced his departure from the job of football coach. But for Liverpool FC he could come into trouble again.
Jürgen Klopp is not completely ruling out a return as Liverpool FC coach. “I said that I would never coach another team in England again. So that means if it’s Liverpool… yes. Theoretically it’s possible,” said the 58-year-old Red Bull Group head of football in the podcast “The Diary Of A CEO”.
Klopp resigned from the Reds last year and then emphasized several times that he no longer wanted to work as a coach for the time being. Since the beginning of the year he has been the so-called Global Head of Soccer for Red Bull and in this role he is jointly responsible for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, among others. Under Klopp’s successor Arne Slot, Liverpool immediately won their 20th championship last season.
A coaching comeback is currently out of the question for Klopp anyway: “I’m 58, which means I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I won’t work as a coach anymore,” he said. “But thank God I don’t have to do that. I can just wait and see what the future brings.”
Jürgen Klopp doesn’t miss coaching
Klopp can apparently live well without the daily football business. “I don’t miss coaching, I don’t miss standing in the rain for two and a half or three hours, I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or giving ten to twelve interviews a week,” said the former Bundesliga coach of Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund.
The folk hero of Liverpool: Jürgen Klopp says goodbye to the Premier League
Everything is in the spirit of farewell: A fan wears a thank you shirt for Jürgen Klopp not far from Anfield Road. Klopp can also be seen on the wall on the opposite side and the inscription “That was great, Liverpool. Nine ‘not so normal’ years”. “Not so normal” is a reference to Klopp’s first press conference in October 2015, when he introduced himself to the press as “the normal one”.

In the podcast, Klopp also spoke about the death of his ex-player Diogo Jota, whom he signed from league rivals Wolverhampton in 2020. “How do you replace someone like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, it’s about the person he was,” Klopp said. “I can’t imagine the locker room without him, it’s so hard. I still can’t really talk about it. It was an incredible shock for all the boys too.” Jota died in a car accident in July.
