Gisdol relieved of his post as head coach of Lokomotiv

The head coach of FC Lokomotiv Markus Gisdol was relieved of his post on March 1, Marvin Compper was appointed to his place, the club reported.

“Marvin Compper has been named acting head coach. He will prepare the team for the upcoming matches in the Russian Cup, as well as in the Russian Premier League,” the team said in a Telegram message.

Gisdol joined the club in autumn, but has already decided to terminate the contract. The reasons for his departure are not specified.

On February 27, the Russian national football team was banned from using the country’s flag and anthem in international competitions. The team will be able to participate in competitions in a neutral status.

Home matches of the teams of the Russian Football Union (RFU) will be held on neutral fields. The imposed sanctions will remain in effect until further notice.

On the same day, the Czech national team expressed its unwillingness to meet with Russian players in the qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup due to Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass. Similar decisions were made by Sweden and Poland.
