A junior coach of Shakhtyor lost his life in the Ukraine war. The club boss hopes for an end to the fighting.
Chief executive Sergey Palkin of Ukrainian giants Shakhtyor Donetsk has confirmed the death of a youth coach during Russia’s invasion of his country and called for an end to the “madness” of the war.
Palkin wrote in a long statement on Facebook, among other things: “One of our employees was killed yesterday. A youth coach. He was killed by a Russian bullet. Russia, you are killing Ukrainians. Stop this madness.”

According to media reports, Sapylo, who played as a keeper in Karpaty Lviv’s youth team, died in a battle with Russian troops near Kyiv. Shachtjor boss Palkin also specifically addressed the owners, managers and players of Russian clubs “who were always welcome in Ukraine” to work against the war and for peace. It’s about “not being silent, but saying your opinion out loud”.
