Strong form inspired Austria’s team

Austria’s ski jumping team made amends for the disappointing fifth place at the Olympic Games with second place in the mixed competition in Oslo yesterday. Led by another great Stefan Kraft (125 and 130 meters), Chiara Kreuzer, Manual Fettner and Sara Marita Kramer kept the upper hand with just 0.8 points ahead of the third-placed Norwegians. Victory in the competition, which is part of the Raw Air series, was out of reach, however, and went to Slovenia (Ursa Bogataj, Lovro Kos, Nika Kriznar, Timi Zajc), who were already in a class of their own at the Winter Games, with a lead of 75.2 points was.

The Russian team, which surprisingly won silver in the Beijing competition, which was characterized by disqualifications, did not compete in Oslo because the FIS excluded Russian and Belarusian athletes from all competitions as a result of the Ukraine war.

Kramer puzzled

While Kraft was able to seamlessly follow up on his recent World Cup victories in Lahti and Lillehammer, Kramer couldn’t cope with her debut at Holmenkollen. While the 20-year-old celebrated her seventh win of the season in Lillehammer, she wasn’t able to fly so perfectly in Oslo. “I have no idea why it is. I forget a bit about jumping away,” puzzled the Salzburg native. At the weekend, however, she could already win the overall World Cup for the first time, currently she leads 244 points ahead of Nika Kriznar. After the Norway competitions of the Raw Air, there are still two competitions to come in Oberhof next week.

Today we continue on the Holmenkollen. The women start (1 p.m.) before the men (5 p.m./both live on ORF1) follow. The Raw Air series will conclude on Sunday. This year it will only take place in Lillehammer and Oslo, Trondheim and Vikersund will be omitted. The hill in Trondheim will be modified for the 2025 World Championships. And in Vikersund this year, from March 10th to 13th, the world championship titles in ski flying will be awarded.
