Liensberger wins women’s slalom in Aare

The Olympic silver medalist improved in the second half from fifth place to the top, the German Lena Dürr fell off the podium again after a break lead, just like in the Olympic slalom. The Norwegian Mina Fürst Holtmann (+0.16) and the Swiss Michelle Gisin (+0.23) landed in the places. It is Liensberger’s first win of the season.

In the fight for the overall World Cup, the two opponents showed nerves. Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova dropped from second to fourth place (+0.25), but reduced her gap to ninth-placed American Mikaela Shiffrin to 56 points. Only the final week in Courchevel/Meribel follows. The second best Austrian in the race was Katharina Truppe from Carinthia in sixth (+0.71). With her third World Cup victory, Liensberger ensured the second success of the season for the ÖSV women. Cornelia Hütter had landed the other one.

“It feels really incredible. It’s a great pleasure for me to be at the top again,” said Liensberger in a first reaction in the ORF interview. And about her performance in the second round: “I wanted to give everything. I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Go through to the finish line, that was my tactic, to go ‘all in’.” In the Discipline World Cup, the 24-year-old is third before the last slalom of the season.
