For a long time, Jana Hartmann and Julija Krewsun were sporting competitors. In view of the war, Hartmann is now opening her house to the Ukrainian.
Jana Hartmann and Julija Krewsun were long competitors on the tartan track. Hartmann, who was born in Dresden, was German champion over the 800 meters six times and met the Ukrainian runner at international competitions. A friendship developed alongside the route, which is probably now reaching its climax: Krewsun had to flee from the war in her home country, Hartmann took her in.
Both have long since ended their careers in competitive sports, but this obviously does not affect the relationship. “We both have a similar past, we don’t do that much differently at work, and yet the present is anything but the same,” Hartmann wrote on her Instagram account. “We hope for a future together, with lots of love, fairness and respect.”

Ukraine war: Former runner has to flee
Hartmann lives in Dortmund and runs a sports and health agency there with her husband and former trainer Marcus Hoselmann. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, she immediately contacted Krevsun. “When the war broke out, I wrote to Julija directly that she could come to us,” she said “leichtathletik.de”. “If I can help, then I’ll help. That’s a matter of course for me.” She also wants to encourage other people to help if they have the opportunity.
The 41-year-old Krewsun and her son made the 52-hour drive from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to Dortmund in their car. There they are now safe with Hartmann and her husband. Yulia Krevsun’s husband had to stay behind in Ukraine: Due to a government order, men between the ages of 18 and 60 are not allowed to leave the country.
