Champions League: United fans throw a cup against Atletico coach Diego Simeone

After advancing in the Champions League, Atletico coach Diego Simeone has been pelted with cups by Man United fans.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was pelted with cups by English fans after beating Manchester United in the last 16.

The Argentine virtually fled Manchester’s Old Trafford as several frustrated United fans threw their full drinking vessels in his direction. The reason for this anger was – in addition to the sensitive knockout round of the home team – Simeone’s refusal to shake hands with his fellow coach Ralf Rangnick.

Simeone doesn’t like handshakes

The Atletico coach has a history here. Liverpool fans were “not amused” when he simply ignored Jürgen Klopp’s outstretched hand.

His explanation at the time: “I don’t like the handshake after the game because the emotions of two sides are at the maximum. I know it’s a custom in Great Britain, but I don’t share it and I don’t like the falseness behind it.”

For the proud United fans, the crisis has intensified again after the 0:1 defeat. Your club has now been eliminated from all cup competitions and has nothing to do with the title fight in the Premier League either.

Only fourth place and thus the direct Champions League qualification is achievable. “For us it’s now about finishing the season as well as possible and possibly finishing fourth. It’s going to be difficult, we know that too,” said Rangnick Prime video.
