The president of the SLAR expresses “pain and sadness” for the death of Aramburu

Piñeyrua emphasized that Aramburu’s death “produces great sadness, especially for Argentine rugby”, while sending “a big hug to his family, friends and teammates from the clubs he joined in his sporting career”.

Piñeyrúa, 48, former player of the Uruguayan club Old Cristians de Montevideo, was coach of the Uruguayan national team, “Los Teros”, between 2003 and 2006 and later of the Uruguayan youth teams.

Aramburu, 42, was shot to death after an incident that occurred at 6:15 local (2:15 in Argentina) at the Le Mabillon gastronomic venue, in the Saint-Germain neighborhood, which he had attended with the Frenchman Shaun Hegarty, his partner commercial and also former teammate at the Biarritz Olympique club.

Federico Martín Aramburu, a native of La Plata, began his career at Club Atlético San Isidro (CASI) and played 22 international matches with Los Pumas, with whom he was the protagonist of the historic third place in the 2007 World Cup in France.

In rugby in that country he played between 2004 and 2010 with the jerseys of Biarritz Olympique, Perpignan and Dax. He won the French Championship in 2005 and 2006 with his first team.

Already retired from activity, in 2014, Aramburu founded the Esprit Basque travel agency, located in Biarritz, together with Hegarty.
