BVB made a mistake in Cologne and is again six points behind Bayern

On Sunday, BVB only drew 1-1 (1-1) at 1. FC Köln and is now six points behind Bayern Munich again. The series champion had won 4-0 against Union Berlin on Saturday. Seven games are still to come, including the direct duel in Munich on the fourth-to-last matchday.

Marius Wolf (8th), who was loaned to Cologne last year, actually gave Dortmund a tailor-made start in front of 50,000 spectators. But FC got a deserved equalizer through Sebastian Andersson (36th) and in seventh place can continue to dream of moving into the Europa or Conference League. At BVB, on the other hand, striker Erling Haaland was denied the 17th goal of the season when he made his comeback after 57 days, just like after his two substitutions in the 1-0 wins against Bielefeld and in Mainz. Louis Schaub was in action for Cologne until the 68th minute, Dejan Ljubicic and Florian Kainz were absent due to illness.

Leverkusen wins late

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen consolidated third place in the table. The employer of Julian Baumgartlinger, who was not deployed, celebrated a 2-0 win at VfL Wolfsburg thanks to two last-minute goals, where Pavao Pervan kept the goal and Xaver Schlager also played. Fourth three points behind is RB Leipzig, who with Konrad Laimer did not get beyond a goalless draw against a harmless Eintracht Frankfurt.

For Leverkusen, the Brazilian “joker” Paulinho advanced to the match winner three days after the end of the Europa League with a brace (86th, 92nd). The first victory after four unsuccessful games in all competitions was a lucky one, as the Wolfsburg team failed twice because of the aluminum housing. Schlager was on the field until the 74th minute, his team is still only twelfth in the table.

Goalless draw in Leipzig

In the fight for fourth place, RB could not fully score and had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt. For the first time since the record game with 43,429 spectators against Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of November, Leipzig was able to use its stadium to capacity again. Firecrackers and other pyrotechnics were ignited in the guest block practically at the start of the whistle, the game was interrupted for a good one and a half minutes because of the red and black cloud of smoke.

Konrad Laimer found two of Leipzig’s many chances. In the 41st minute, his long-range shot hit the crossbar, after a change of sides Salzburg, who had played until the 85th minute, found their champion in Frankfurt goalie Kevin Trapp (62nd). On the side of Frankfurt coached by Oliver Glasner, Martin Hinteregger played through, Stefan Ilsanker came on as a substitute in the finish (89th). Frankfurt improved to eighth place in the table.
