The man from Braunau prevailed yesterday in the super heavyweight final of the tournament in Porec (Cro) against the German Nikita Putilov on points. “It’s my greatest success so far,” said the 22-year-old jubilantly, who knew exactly who to thank at the time. “I wouldn’t have gotten this far without my father.” Papa Hassan, who used to box in Austria’s national team, has been in his son’s corner since a quarrel with national coach Daniel Nader. He also made himself available as a training partner during the pandemic. Since Austria’s association did not organize any preparation for the European Championship, the father-son team quickly put together a training camp and the necessary sparring units themselves.
