Flexibility is required

Whether the defending champions of the Steelvolleys Linz-Steg will play the first volleyball semi-final game on Sunday (5 p.m.) will only be known the evening before, because the opponent will only be determined in Innsbruck against Graz. Although it was 1-0 for the Styrians in their “Best of 3” quarter-final series, the teams agreed that the promoted team would definitely be determined in the second game. If Innsbruck wins, a so-called “golden set” will decide.

While the Graz women agreed to play in Linz the next day if they reached the semi-finals, the “Best of 3” semi-final series against the Tyroleans would not start until Wednesday (7.30 p.m.) in Linz.

That sounds like a good deal of flexibility, which is now necessary because of a corona cluster that recently broke out in Innsbruck. “We’ll be fully prepared for Graz by Saturday evening,” sees Steg trainer Roland Schwab pragmatically. “As long as we are not taught anything better, the task is called Graz.”

Club manager Andreas Andretsch is of course annoyed that the uncertain planning makes it difficult to advertise the decisive home games of the season: “We would prefer to be able to promote such games better.”
