South American Cup: Independent and Racing, with accessible groups

Independiente, who holds two titles in this event -2010 and 2017-, will seek his third cup and enlarge his nickname “King of Cups”, where he will head Group G and will face Deportivo La Guaira from Venezuela, Ceará from Brazil and General Caballero of Paraguay.

For his part, the other great from Avellaneda, Racing, will be the top seed in Group B, which will be made up of Melgar from Peru, River from Uruguay and Cuiabá from Brazil.

The international contest will have another old acquaintance and who knew how to shout champion in the 2013 edition, since Lanús will be present in Group A, where he will have to face Montevideo Wanderers (Uruguay), Metropolitanos (Venezuela) and Barcelona from Ecuador.

Defense and Justice, champion of the 2020 edition -played in 2021- will be part of Group F together with Liga de Quito (Ecuador), Atlético Goaianiense (Brazil) and Antofagasta (Chile).

The one who will not have things easy, in principle, is Unión de Santa Fe, who was designated as part of Group H and will face Junior from Colombia, Oriente Petrolero from Bolivia and Fluminense from Brazil.

Finally, Banfield will be together with Santos from Brazil, Unión La Calera from Chile and Universidad Católica from Ecuador, who will make up Group C.

The group stage will have a total of six team matches, where all will face each other, seeing the faces of local and visitor.

Only the first of each group will qualify for the round of 16, when the third-placed teams in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores will be added.

The edition of the Copa Sudamericana will begin on April 5 and will end on October 1 in Brasilia, where the grand final will be played at the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasilia.

The winner of the contest will win the sumptuous figure of five million dollars -one million more than the previous edition-, as well as the opportunity to compete in the Recopa Sudamerica -against the winner of the Copa Libertadores-, the Suruga Bank Cup and the passport for the maximum continental tournament for 2023.
