LASK has Stefan Nutz to thank for the fact that the derby didn’t have to be stopped after 20 minutes: during the celebration after the 2-0 win, Ried’s director was hit in the head by a cup thrown from the east stand. Referee Christian-Petru Ciochirca interrupted the derby and sent the teams into the dressing rooms.
“I only found out in the dressing room,” said Ried trainer Robert Ibertsberger. “It’s not something to throw a cup like that. It’s not a good sign for football.” The Rieder didn’t plan to break it off. “If the player freezes, the only option is to abandon the game,” explained Ciochirca. He recalled the recent cup throw in Bochum when the assistant referee was unable to continue.
Nutz didn’t think of resigning. “I didn’t do much with it and see if I started bleeding,” said the 30-year-old. “The scene speaks for itself. I don’t know what people think of doing something like that. If I throw a cup at people, it can end up being more stupid.”
In the 75th minute, Nutz had to be substituted due to dizziness. “I took a hit on the back of the head in the second half, maybe it made me dizzy.”
“Behaviour inexcusable”
The scene will have an aftermath for LASK. “Such behavior is inexcusable and has no place in our stadium. We are already evaluating the images from our surveillance cameras to investigate the perpetrator, who was in the seating sector on the east stand,” explained LASK Managing Director Andreas Protil, who apologized to Nutz after the final whistle. “As soon as we know who is responsible, we will ensure that they are banned from the stadium.” The chances of finding out are increased because there is less movement in the east stand than in the fan sector behind the goal. The club will take a penalty from the Bundesliga – and will probably be held harmless by the perpetrator. Profile: “LASK reserves the right to take further legal action.” (like)
