Former Ukrainian soccer player Oleksandr Sucheko has been found dead in a mass grave – killed by Russian troops. His parents were also killed with him: his mother was the mayor.
A former professional footballer has been brutally shot dead by Russian troops in Ukraine. Oleksandr Sucheko was killed in Motyshyn, a village of 1,200 near Kyiv, according to the international players’ union FIFPro. Sucheko was only 25 years old.
As the English newspaper “Metro” reports, Sucheko and his parents were abducted on March 23 and shot in a wooded area. Residents of the village spoke of an “execution”. Oleksandr Sucheko’s mother, Olga Sucheko, was the mayor of Motyshyn. Her death was confirmed by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk on Sunday. According to the BBC, she was accused of supporting Ukrainian soldiers. The remains were found in a mass grave along with 30 other bodies after Russian troops left the village.

Ukraine: Mayor of Motyshyn assassinated
“This is a war crime and those responsible will be sentenced under international humanitarian law,” Vereshchuk said. According to them, eleven mayors from Kyiv, Cherson, Mykolaiv and the region around Donetsk are in Russian captivity. Motyshyn is near Bucha, where hundreds of bodies were found on the streets after the Russian troops left. There is a very high degree of certainty that this was a massacre committed by Russian soldiers.

Attacking player Oleksandr Sucheko played for Ukrainian clubs SK Chayka and FK Kudrivka in his career. FK Kudrivka posted photos of the player on Facebook, expressing their deep sadness and dismay and writing about Oleksandr Sucheko and his parents: “They were all wonderful people who helped many Ukrainians in war and in peaceful times.” In early March, the players’ union Fifpro announced the deaths of Ukrainian professional footballers Vitalii Sapylo and Dmytro Martynenko, who also died in the war.
