Maradona’s mythical shirt is auctioned: isn’t it the one with the goals against England?

The jacket, blue with a V-neck, from the Le Coq Sportif brand and with silver numbers, was supposedly in the possession of the former English defender steve hodgewith whom Maradona would have exchanged it at the end of the meeting.

The English newspaper The Times indicated that the price that can be collected for the shirt is four million pounds sterling (about 5.2 million dollars), although some point out that this figure can reach seven million US dollars.

However, Dalma Maradona detailed in the program “A perfect day”, by Radio Metro, that the shirt in question is the one he wore in the first half, which ended tied 0-0, while he stated that he knows “perfectly” that the Englishman does not have the second time.

“You change the one from the first half because you can’t imagine what will happen in the second. Obviously it has much more value than the one they auction. I know perfectly well that he doesn’t have it. My dad told me: ‘How am I going to give him the shirt of my life?'”Dalma recounted.

And I add: “The people who are going to participate in that auction should know that it is an important shirt, but it is the one from the first half that ended goalless. For me, the one from the second half has no value”.

As indicated, from April 20 the shirt will be available for bidding until May 4 on the Sotheby’s auction website.

For a time the blue shirt was on display at the National Football Museum in Manchester, until Hodge himself made the decision to auction it off.

In that sense, Sotheby’s had to confirm that it was the original shirt worn by the Argentine captain on June 22, 1986 at the Azteca stadium in the Federal District.

“Part of the challenge in evaluating the jersey was identifying it with the two historic goals. As part of this effort, Sotheby’s worked with Resolution Photomatching to match the jersey to both goals, examining unique details in various elements of the item, including the patch, the stripes and numbering”, he pointed out.

Finally, he explained on his website: “The Photomatching resolution determined that Maradona changed his shirt during the match, but that he used this shirt for the two historic goals in the second half of the match.”
