Axel Witsel will probably leave BVB after this season. A German sports director of an MLS club suggests a move to North America.
Lutz Pfannenstiel, sports director of the new MLS club St. Louis City SC, has fueled speculation that Axel Witsel is about to move from Borussia Dortmund to the North American professional league.
“There are a lot of rumors about him. MLS is one of the targets that is being talked about. It will be interesting to see how he decides,” said Pfannenstiel ESPN. According to information from Transfermarkt.us St. Louis itself is not aiming for a transfer of the Belgian. But the two teams from Los Angeles, LAFC and LA Galaxy, are said to want to sign the midfielder.
Witsel’s contract with BVB expires after this season. He will most likely leave the club on a free transfer. He had recently said that he was “in a special situation”. Juventus and Newcastle United are also rumored to be interested in him.
Witsel at BVB since 2018
Witsel switched to BVB in 2018. He has made 37 scoring appearances in all competitions this season.
Just recently, substitute goalkeeper Roman Bürki, a BVB player, announced his move to MLS. The Swiss signed for St. Louis City SC.
