Skrgic is fighting for a ticket to the Futsal World Cup

For the first time in its history, Austria’s national futsal team is tackling a qualification for the Futsal World Cup – Edwin Skrgic, an Upper Austrian, is right in the middle instead of just there. “Of course, the goal is very clear, that we qualify for the next intermediate round in September.”

The preliminary qualifying round for the 2024 finals is currently being held as part of a mini-tournament in Karlskrona, Sweden. The 26-year-old, who plays for Austria’s top futsal club Diamant Linz, was already in action in the duels against Sweden (3:3) and Albania (3:2) – tomorrow the game against Andorra will take place. For the futsal kick, the former striker from Stadl-Paura or Donau Linz even put his previous lower house career on hold for the time being. “Even if it was agreed in advance, there were always problems when futsal dates collided with the championship,” says Skrgic about his departure in winter from OÖ-League autumn champion Oedt.

In the summer, the attacker also wants to return to the pitch: “I’ll look for a club that understands.” However, the variant of indoor football recognized by FIFA should remain in first place. “I admire the pace and technique in futsal.” The newborn daughter Taira has only privately outperformed the kick with the round leather: “I sleep less, but it’s the best feeling you could wish for.”
