Brad Binder was the best KTM man in twelfth place, in the overall World Championship standings the South African slipped from second to sixth place. There was cheering again in the Gresini team’s pits. The Italian Enea Bastianini already celebrated his second win of the season for the private Ducati team in Austin. Former world champion Marc Marquez also felt like a winner, who after a botched start rolled up the field from the very back and finished sixth on his comeback on a Honda.
“Things went better than we expected in the first three races. In Texas, suddenly nothing worked out the way we had imagined,” KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer drew a sobering conclusion after the weekend. The guesswork after the modest training results remained a constant companion. Beirer: “Apparently we have a special problem here that we couldn’t solve with any of the four bikes.” Miguel Oliveira, who won at the start of the season in Indonesia, finished 18th on Sunday. KTM should have sorted out the problems by its home grand prix on April 24 in Portimao, Portugal.
The weekend in America was not entirely unsuccessful for the people from Mattighofen: In the off-road area, works driver Marvin Musquin (Fra) celebrated victory in the Supercross Triple Crown event in St. Louis in the USA.
