Up to 30,000 fans of the German Bundesliga club are said to have been in the FC Barcelona stadium yesterday. The Spanish ultras didn’t like the fact that so many visiting fans got tickets. According to a media report, the Catalans even blocked the sale of 9,000 tickets at the stadium box office the morning before the game, which would have meant that there would have been significantly more Eintracht fans in the arena under normal circumstances.
And that’s how the strange scene happened after the half-time break: The Ultras of the home team fled their block when the score was 0:2 in protest against the numerous Frankfurt supporters represented in the stadium. The fan block right behind the goal of Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was completely empty after the break and only gradually filled up again ten minutes later.
After the elimination against the Bundesliga club, Barca coach Xavi stated that they would “investigate how this could happen”. The many Frankfurt fans “of course helped” the opponent, said the former world-class player.
