1) Rapid Vienna – Dynamo Dresden 5:0
The 1984/85 European Cup season is burned into the collective memory of many Rapid fans. The round of 16 in the Cup Winners’ Cup was already memorable: After a 3-1 win in the first leg against Celtic Glasgow, the second leg became a scandal: the Scots were clearly superior 3-0, but the game had to be repeated because Rapid player Rudi Weinhofer was hit in the head by a whiskey bottle. On neutral ground in Manchester, Rapid won with 1:0.
In the quarterfinals waited on March 20, 1985 Dynamo Dresden. Rapid had no chance in the first leg in East Germany and lost 3-0, but the second leg took a completely different course. In front of 16,000 fans, the Hütteldorfer played themselves into a frenzy and won 5-0 with goals from Peter Pacult (2x), Leo Lainer, Antonin Panenka and Hans Krankl.
2) LASK – Inter Milan 1:0
In the same year, LASK also had its great moment in the European Cup: Am October 23, 1985 the athletes won 1-0 against Inter Milan in the 2nd UEFA Cup round in front of officially 18,500 spectators at the Linzer Gugl. Hans Gröss scored the winning goal. The fact that the second leg ended with a 0:4 in Milan is almost forgotten.
3) Austria Salzburg – Sporting Lisbon 3:0
After a 2-0 defeat in Portugal, Austria Salzburg were up December 7, 1993 in the UEFA Cup Round of 16 with their backs to the wall. In front of an atmospheric backdrop in the Lehen stadium, Salzburg actually managed to make a comeback after goals from Leo Lainer, Adi Hütter and Martin Amerhauser and thus made it into the quarter-finals. It should be the next memorable duel, as it turned out later.

4) Eintracht Frankfurt – Austria Salzburg 1:0 aet, 4:5 on pens
Today’s Glasner club Eintracht Frankfurt waited in the quarter-finals. Austria won the first leg 1-0 with a goal by Adi Hütter, the second leg on March 15, 1994 The tension in Frankfurt’s Waldstadion could hardly be surpassed: Eintracht equalized the 0-1 deficit and a penalty shoot-out had to decide. There, goalkeeper Otto Konrad became a great hero: he parried against two Eintracht players, he converted the decisive penalty himself. It was the most successful European Cup season in the history of the Salzburg club, which only ended with the final defeat against Inter Milan.
5) Sturm Graz – Galatasaray Istanbul 3:0
In the first group phase of the Champions League, Sturm Graz wins its group and beats Galatasaray Istanbul, winners of the UEFA Cup and Supercup at the time September 20, 2000 with goals from Sergey Yuran and Markus Schopp (2x) clear with 3:0.

6) FC Superfund Pasching – Werder Bremen 4:0
In the semi-final first leg of the UEFA Intertoto Cup, FC Superfund Pasching outclassed the top German club Werder Bremen July 30, 2003 with goals from Michael Horvath, Edi Members (2x) and Michael Baur with 4:0. For Bremen it was a wake-up call at the right time: at the end of the season they won the double (championship and DFB Cup) for the first time in their history.
7) Liverpool 0-1 GAK
In the final qualifying round for the Champions League, Grazer AK, as reigning Austrian champions, faces an almost impossible task against FC Liverpool. In the first leg in Graz-Liebenau, the English demonstrate their superiority and win 2-0. But in the second leg on Aug 24, 2004 GAK experiences a great moment and wins sensationally 1-0 at Anfield Road. However, Liverpool manages to climb: It is the beginning of a spectacular Champions League season for the “Reds”, who save themselves in a thrilling final against AC Milan after being 3-0 down in extra time and finally win the trophy on penalties to fetch.
8) Borussia Dortmund – FC Salzburg 1:2
A European Cup duel with double Austrian participation: Dortmund coach Peter Stöger welcomes on March 8, 2018 FC Salzburg in the round of 16 of the Europa League, who naturally go into the game as a blatant outsider. But Salzburg acted fearlessly and played the clear favorites against the wall in their stadium, in the end the Austrian champions won 2-1 with a brace from Valon Berisha. The second leg ends goalless, Salzburg secures a quarter-final duel with Lazio Roma.

9) FC Salzburg – Lazio Rome 4:1
This pairing is also tough: For a long time it looked as if the successful Salzburg season would end against the Italian top club. The Romans win the first leg 4:2, also in the second leg April 12, 2018 in Salzburg they have a 1-0 lead. Despite the hopeless situation, the young Salzburg squad was pushed forward by the crowd and suddenly played like they were unleashed: Dabbur, Haidara, Hwang and Lainer turned the game around with their goals, Salzburg won 4-1 and made it into the semi-finals.
10) LASK 4-1 PSV Eindhoven
It was probably the most exciting game of a fairytale LASK Europa League season. On the 4th day of the group stage, Linzer am November 7, 2019 PSV Eindhoven and get off to the worst possible start: the guests scored 1-0 with a controversial penalty in the early stages, after the break LASK dismantled the Dutch top club into its individual parts and won in front of a full house on the Linzer Gugl with goals from Ranftl , Frieser and Joao Klauss (2x) with 4:1.
