Bayern coach Nagelsmann had replaced Nianzou against Bielefeld at break. Afterwards he explained his motives and offered criticism.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann publicly criticized FCB defender Tanguy Nianzou after FC Bayern’s 3-0 win at Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday.
Nagelsmann had replaced the 19-year-old central defender at half-time after Nianzou got away with a yellow card after an extremely hard challenge against Bielefeld’s Fabian Kunze. “On the one hand, it was an educational measure, that’s a red card for me, I’m honest,” said the Bayern coach DAZN.
FC Bayern – Nagelsmann: Nianzou has to be more careful in header duels
Nianzou must learn “to be more careful in such a header duel. When it comes to the head, it can quickly become dangerous,” Nagelsmann continued. In addition, concerns about a second half being outnumbered was another reason for Nianzou’s substitution. “But I would have tolerated that more easily. I’m already a coach who likes to resort to such educational measures with such young players.”
Bielefeld’s Kunze had to be treated on the pitch for a few minutes after Nianzou’s foul and was then taken to the hospital with a neck brace. Fortunately, Arminia gave the all-clear a little later: “His condition is stable and he’s doing better,” Bielefeld tweeted.
For Nianzou, however, it was the 20th competitive appearance of the current season. Also because of long-term injury problems, the French U20 international has not yet been able to fully convince Bayern. He came from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2020 and still has a contract in Munich until 2024.
