“You’ll never walk alone” – after the death of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo’s son, fans at Liverpool’s stadium on Anfield Road expressed their sympathy with moving scenes.

Cristiano Ronaldo was absent from the pitch at Anfield, understandably. And yet he was omnipresent at Liverpool FC stadium on Tuesday evening.

After the death of the son of the five-time world footballer of the year (the star reported) fans of both teams expressed their sympathy with a moving action during Liverpool FC’s Premier League game against Ronaldo’s club Manchester United (4-0).

In the seventh minute of the game, the spectators applauded for a good minute and agreed on the Anfield Road classic “You’ll never walk alone” (Gerry & The Pacemakers). The number seven has a high symbolic value for Ronaldo, he describes his shirt number as his lucky number; “CR7” is a winged term for the soccer superstar. Players from both teams wore black armbands.

Videos of the moving solidarity action during the game made the rounds on social networks, and countless people also expressed their support for Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodríguez in the comments.

Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp was also moved after the action: “That’s exactly how football should be – all rivalries aside at this moment,” said the ex-BVB coach after his team’s 4-0 win.

Cristiano Ronaldo announced the loss of his son on Monday evening. The wording of the statement suggests that the child did not survive a twin birth. “Only the birth of our little girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” wrote the 37-year-old footballer and his 28-year-old partner. Their first child together was born in November 2017. The Manchester United pro himself is also the father of three other children.
