Verstappen beat Leclerc in the Formula 1 sprint

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has won the first sprint decision of this Formula 1 season. The world champion prevailed on Ferrari territory in Imola on Saturday, behind him ended up world championship leader Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull. Mercedes went empty-handed in the overture to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. The race takes place on Sunday (3 p.m./live ServusTV, Sky), Verstappen then starts from the front of the grid.

Leclerc in the Ferrari took the lead from pole man Verstappen at the start, behind it there was a crash on the first lap. Zhou Guanyu’s Alfa Romeo had to be transported away after colliding with Pierre Gasly in the AlphaTauri, and the safety car drove onto the track. After the race was approved, Leclerc initially kept Verstappen at a distance, behind them Lando Norris and Kevin Magnussen lost to Perez. Towards the end, Leclerc’s lead melted away more and more, on the penultimate lap the Dutchman passed his competitor in the Ferrari on the outside.
