Cristiano Ronaldo has scored again in his first game days after the death of his newborn son. After his goal, the 37-year-old made a gesture towards the sky.

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Manchester United’s starting XI just days after the death of his newborn son. The soccer superstar was greeted with applause by the hosts’ fans at Saturday’s Premier League game at Arsenal in London. The offensive player scored in the 34th minute to make it 1:2 for his team. After scoring, Ronaldo raised his eyes and left arm towards the sky.

However, the Portuguese was unable to prevent the record English champions’ defeat at Arsenal. United lost 3-1 in London and suffered another setback in the Premier League in the fight for a Champions League spot.

Ronaldo mourns the loss of their son with his partner Georgina Rodriguez. The wording in a statement suggested that he did not survive a twin birth. “It is with great sadness that we announce that our boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to have some hope and cheer in this moment. We will always love you ‘ the couple wrote in a joint statement shared by Ronaldo on his social media channels on Monday night.

Ronaldo and his family had experienced tremendous sympathy and support around the world. The 37-year-old was absent from Tuesday’s game at Liverpool (0:4). Nevertheless, in the 7th minute of the game in Anfield, the Liverpool fans applauded along with United supporters for around 60 seconds and sang the anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. Arsenal fans also applauded Ronaldo in the 7th minute.
