LASK added an embarrassment to a season full of disappointments on Tuesday: With a win in Tyrol, the athletes could have secured relegation, but they let themselves be shown at 0: 4 (0: 3). First Petar Filipovic’s nose bled, then the opponent dismantled the LASK defense with the simplest of means – as so often in the current season.
Filipovic broke his nose in a header duel with Dominik Stumberger (8th). Substitute Jan Boller had not yet come on as a substitute when Tirol striker Giacomo Vrioni showed his nose for goals: Maxime Awoudja hit a pass from his own half over the advanced defense, the Albanian ran away from James Holland and Oumar Sako – 1-0 (11th). .
LASK trainer Andreas Wieland had warned of Tyrolean counterattacks and standard situations. Stumberger’s crossbar header (18th) and LASK loanee Thomas Sabitzer’s 2-0 lead (28th) showed that the ferocious defense had nothing to oppose even when the ball was stationary. At 3:0 after Sascha Horvath lost the ball, Vrioni was again too fast for the LASK defenders – 3:0 (31st).
Goalkeeper Alexander Schlager initially prevented the 0:4 with saves against Valentino Müller and Vrioni (36th). Only then did LASK not only become a danger to itself: Boller’s shot was cleared on the line (37′), Peter Michorl’s free kick (38′) and Sako’s headers (39′, 41′) were parried by goalkeeper Ferdinand Oswald.
Tirol effortlessly managed the lead after the break – and Boller gave Vrioni the 4-0 (79th) by losing the ball. It was the fitting ending to a disastrous performance. LASK is now second in the qualifying group.
