Super League rebels Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Juventus are threatened with the Champions League

are the founders of the Super League now in serious trouble? A court cleared the way for a Champions League exclusion.

The founders of the Super League, which sees itself as a competitor to the UEFA Champions League, are apparently threatened with trouble again. A court in Madrid raised according to information from Gazzetta dello Sport an injunction against UEFA. The European association can thus sanction Juventus, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, who continue to insist on the establishment of the elite league.

However, UEFA wants to wait for further court hearings, including at the European Court of Justice, and only then decide on further measures. Accordingly, the clubs do not have to fear any consequences for the coming season.

Super League: UEFA threatens exclusion from the Champions League

For the following season, however, the continental association wants to maintain the penalties already imposed of five percent withholding of UEFA income and a fine of 15 million euros. This applies to all of the original twelve participants. However, should clubs not accept the penalties, UEFA will likely rule them out for the 2023/24 season.

Almost exactly a year ago, the twelve clubs from Spain, England and Italy announced the formation of the Super League. However, the six English members quickly withdrew, mainly due to pressure from fans and politicians, and Atletico Madrid and the two Milan clubs AC and Inter also withdrew from the plans. Barcelona, Real and Juventus are sticking to the plan to this day.
