Will Joachim Löw not be the new coach of Fenerbahce Istanbul after all? Apparently the club is in negotiations with Jorge Jesus.
The former national coach Joachim Löw apparently has well-known competition for the coaching position at the top Turkish club Fenerbahce Istanbul. As Turkish media reports, there was a meeting between Fener President Ali Koc and former Benfica coach Jorge Jesus. Photos from the meeting were also released.
Allegedly, an agreement has already been reached with the 67-year-old Portuguese. Fenerbahce clearly denied this in an official statement on Tuesday evening. Instead, all options would simply be considered. Jesus and Benfica had agreed to separate at the end of December after a series of failures. Between 2010 and 2015, Jesus had guided the club to three league titles in Portugal.
Joachim Löw reunited with Mesut Özil at Fenerbahce?
Actually, everything at Fenerbahce seemed to be headed towards Joachim Löw returning to the Turkish metropolis, the 62-year-old had already coached Fener in the 1998/99 season. After his resignation as national coach after the European Championships last summer, Löw took a break and has been unemployed since then.
At Fener, Löw would meet Mesut Özil again, with whom he always had a good relationship as national coach. However, Özil was at the end of March – what the 33-year-old.
Under Kartal, the previously struggling traditional club was recently on the upswing. Fenerbahce lost only one of 14 league games under the direction of the 60-year-old, four games before the end of the season the club is in second place in the table. However, Kartal’s continued employment does not seem to be an issue.
