At 9.30 a.m., the team and supervisors of SV Guntamatic Ried get on the bus towards Klagenfurt for the Mission Cup victory. On Sunday (5 p.m., live ORF eins and nachrichten.at) the Innviertlers will be going for the third cup title in the club’s history. Thanks to the 3000 Ried fans in the stadium there is a home game for the Vikings. The cooperation between SV Ried and OÖN alone filled 34 fan buses.
Before the final, the scrollbars were lowered yesterday: we went to the sports field in the Rieder Kaserne, which is not visible to outsiders. Here you can prepare in peace. Nothing will be revealed at today’s final training session in Klagenfurt’s Wörthersee Stadium. “We won’t reveal our cards. The only purpose of the final training session in Klagenfurt is to get a feel for the stadium,” says Ried coach Christian Heinle. Then it’s back to the hotel “Der Sandwirth” in the center of Klagenfurt. SK Sturm also lodged there before their 2018 cup triumph against Salzburg. Hopefully a good omen.
“We thought of something new”
Ried didn’t have much time to get in the mood. Heinle: “We started preparing for the Salzburg game at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. That wasn’t possible earlier because the Admira game was simply more important before that. Since then we’ve been spending all our time either studying videos or on the training ground. “
While you always know exactly what you’re getting with the Salzburg style of play, with SV Ried you at least want to try to surprise your opponent. “Salzburg certainly took a closer look at the 2-2 win against us in the fall. But we’ve come up with something new again,” says Heinle with a smile. When it comes to motivation, he trusts in the tried and tested.
Unlike ex-Ried coach Gerald Baumgartner, who before his sensational cup victory with regional league team Pasching (1-0 against Austria Vienna) showed the players scenes from the film “300”, in which numerically inferior Spartans fought an epic battle. Heinle: “I don’t need that. When I look at the faces of the players, I immediately see the fire in their eyes.” Instead of Spartans, there will be video sequences with Rieder’s own goals, combinations and spectacular defensive actions. Like the action by Markus Lackner, who recently won a duel against Salzburg right in front of the Rieder fan corner and carried the audience away. This spark must also fly tomorrow – then something is possible even against the overwhelming bulls.
This is how Ried’s final day works
Until 8.30 a.m.: Ried’s final day begins with a joint breakfast in the “Sandwirth” hotel.
10 O `clock: In the morning there will be an activation session on one of the training grounds at the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt. During the so-called “sweating”, hours before the cup fight, the muscles should be better supplied with blood and all the important nutrients in order to be able to perform better in the final.
12 o’clock: The people of the Innviertel meet for lunch together. In addition to pasta, meat and fish are also served. After that, Rieds Kicker retire to the hotel rooms to relax.
2.30 p.m.: It’s getting serious: In addition to coffee and cake, a first tactical meeting will be held, which will prepare the team for Austria’s reigning champions.
3:15 p.m.: Ried’s Cup heroes get on the bus – and are expected after a ten-minute drive at the Wörthersee Stadium.
4 p.m.: The Ried finalists receive the final instructions.
4:15 p.m.: The warm-up program in the stadium begins.
17 o’clock: Kick-off in the EM arena: Rieds Kicker go for the third cup title in the club’s history.
