Barca wanted to make some changes in the goalkeeping position in January. However, the attempt failed, as Stole Dimitrievski describes.
North Macedonia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski said he was close to a move from LaLiga rivals FC Barcelona in January. The 28-year-old announced at MozzartSportthat there was already agreement between all parties. The deal finally failed because of another goalkeeper.
Dimitrievski said: “Everything was settled between me and Barca and the clubs were also in agreement. Only the signatures on the contracts were missing.” The 28-year-old was set to succeed Barca Neto as number two but the Brazilian has refused to leave Barcelona. “So I couldn’t go.”
FC Barcelona: Stole Dimitrievski should become Ter Stegen’s competitor
Neto joined the Blaugrana in 2019 for €26m from Valencia CF and is a costly substitute for first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Meanwhile, Dimitrievski has not given up hope of a transfer to a well-known club. It makes him “overjoyed” to be in conversation with top clubs, according to the 54-time national player. “We’re having a great season and I hope that Barcelona or other big clubs will contact me in the summer.”
Dimitrievski managed the feat with Rayo this season, . Only FC Bayern could do that. This gives him a “wonderful” feeling, according to the goalkeeper.
In 2019 he switched from Gimnastic Tarragona to Rayo Vallecano for a fee of 900,000 euros. Dimitrievski’s contract runs until 2024.
