Ancelotti: “Now we’ll get City”

At the end of the championship party at the Cibeles Fountain in the center of Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti got the 150,000 Real fans to cheer again: the Italian, otherwise a rather quiet representative of his guild, boldly gave the attack on the next big title. “Now let’s get City!” the 62-year-old shouted at the supporters. Real Madrid are following up on Wednesday’s 3-4 win against Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Ancelotti completed his collection of titles with the 4-0 win against Espanyol Barcelona: After championships in Italy with AC Milan, in England with Chelsea, in France with Paris Saint-Germain and in Germany with Bayern Munich, the 58-year-old is now the first coach who celebrated the championship title in all five top leagues. In his first term at Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015, he was still denied triumph. The 35th championship title was also historic for Marcelo: The Brazilian won his 24th trophy with Real and overtook Francisco “Paco” Gento (1953 to 1971 at Real) as the most successful player in the club’s 120-year history in terms of titles.

Alaba hopes for the second leg

To celebrate the day, David Alaba lifted a white folding chair again. For the Viennese it was the eleventh championship title. He had brought ten of them with Bayern Munich, nine of them in a row before moving to Real.

Alaba was out injured against Espanyol Barcelona. It is unclear whether the Viennese will be fit in time for the match against Manchester City. In any case, he would “do everything for it,” promised the 29-year-old central defender.
