Brad Binder: “I’m frustrated”

“It’s a beautiful day,” said MotoGP rider Francesco Bagnaia after his first win of the season in Jerez. After a moderate start to the season on his Ducati, the Italian prevailed yesterday ahead of world champion Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia). Marc Marquez (Honda) was fourth. According to Bagnaia, he can now show the true potential of his bike, as he had no chance against Quartararo last year.

KTM had no say in the top places. A tenth place for Brad Binder was the highest emotion for the Munderfingers, Miguel Oliveira finished two places behind. After the promising start to the season with Binder’s second place at the start in Qatar and Oliveira’s victory in Indonesia, the Innviertler team got into trouble. “In the race I had strong vibrations coming from the rear wheel. That made it super difficult to fight with the guys,” said the South African contritely. That made it difficult to decelerate the bike before entering the corner. “I’m frustrated because I know I could have done a good job here,” Binder continued.

Up front, the MotoGP season remains exciting. With Bagnaia there are already five winners in the previous six races. Quartararo extended his lead in the World Cup, he has 89 points under his belt. Espargaro (82), the Italian Enea Bastianini (Ducati/69) and the Spaniard Alex Rins (69) follow. After a trip into the gravel trap, the Suzuki driver ended up outside of the points. Binder is eighth.

The Spaniard Izan Guevara (Gasgas) won the Moto3, while the Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex) won the Moto2.
