Mario Götze has performed well this season at PSV Eindhoven. Now a transfer could be pending for him again.
Mario Götze could possibly follow his current coach Roger Schmidt from PSV Eindhoven to Benfica in the summer.
Like the Portuguese sports newspaper A bola reported, Götze’s name is said to be on Schmidt’s wish list. The newspaper also refers to reports from the Netherlands and could also switch to Benfica due to the close relationship with his current coach.
Götze this season already with 23 scorer points
Benfica had reached a “fundamental agreement” with Schmidt at the end of April. However, a possible commitment by Götze is not an easy task for the Portuguese record champions. Only last summer, the 2014 world champion extended his contract in Eindhoven until 2024, his annual salary is said to be two million euros.
In Lisbon, Götze would also meet Julian Weigl, with whom he played for BVB from 2016 to 2020.
Götze has scored twelve goals and provided eleven assists in 49 competitive games for Eindhoven this season. PSV are currently four points behind leaders Ajax Amsterdam in the Eredivisie and still have a chance of winning the championship.
