Official: BVB brings Nico Schlotterbeck from SC Freiburg

BVB bags the next transfer to strengthen its defense: New national player Nico Schlotterbeck comes from SC Freiburg.

Borussia Dortmund officially announced the signing of central defender Nico Schlotterbeck from SC Freiburg on Monday. The 22-year-old moves to BVB for the new season and has a five-year contract there.

According to the Dortmund team, Schlotterbeck completed the medical check on Monday before signing the contract.

Kehl: Schlotterbeck chose “by no means the economically best offer”

“Nico’s path reminds me of my own, because I came to BVB from Freiburg as a young international at his age,” said Dortmund’s future sports director Sebastian Kehl. “Nico has huge potential. He didn’t choose the economically best offer from among the many interested clubs, but deliberately chose BVB,” Kehl clarified.

Schlotterbeck himself had recently stated that he would only deal with his sporting future after the season. But now he did. “I want to create clarity for SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and myself personally,” he said. At the same time, he asserted that he would concentrate fully on his tasks with the sports club, both in the league and in the cup final.

A few weeks ago, Dortmund had already signed Niklas Süle for the center of defence, who is coming to the new season on a free transfer from FC Bayern Munich.
