Already in 2021, the lawn tennis event had to be held with some restrictions due to the Covid. The measures imposed by the Government forced the capacity to be reduced to 50% in the first rounds, but in the final phases the maximum capacity was recovered, so box office income was not so reduced.

The report details that 290 million pounds (345.3 million euros) were entered in tickets, sponsorships, audiovisual rights, merchandising and restoration. These revenues multiplied compared to 2020, the year in which the club collected 4.9 million pounds (5.8 million euros) for its activity outside the Grand Slam.

The accounts report published by Aeltc clarifies that the British tennis club collected the insurance policy, in which it included a clause for the possible cancellation of the sporting event, for 174 million pounds (207.1 million euros) in 2020, allowing him to dodge losses.

In addition, part of the insurance was carried over to 2021, so that the entity received an extra 6.6 million pounds (7.8 million euros) despite the fact that the appointment could be held relatively normally.

On the other hand, after receiving the most important tennis players in the ATP ranking again, the cost of Wimbledon rose to 117.4 million pounds (139.8 million euros). Personnel expenses rose to 24.3 million pounds (28.9 million euros) due to payroll payments to 402 employees, a figure slightly higher than 2020 despite the fact that it then had 29 more employees.

The club improved its profitability in 2021 compared to before the pandemic despite billing slightly less. Specifically, the entity closed last season 1.8% below the turnover it registered in 2019, the year in which it earned 23.6 million pounds (39.6 million euros). In other words, in 2021 he earned 41% more than before the health crisis.
