Football fans caused chaos in a Danish vaccination center. Because they did not want to miss the game between Denmark and Russia – and therefore came well before their agreed dates. It is hoped that this will not happen again.
Football games and work in vaccination centers actually have nothing to do with each other. In a corona vaccination center near the Danish city of Odense, the EM game between Denmark and Russia last Monday caused chaos.
At the vaccination center, which runs the Odense University Hospital, several Danish fans came to their vaccination appointments much too early, according to the Danish public service broadcaster. And that’s because they didn’t want to miss the football game – which Denmark won 4-1 in Copenhagen.
Fans came earlier so as not to miss the European Championship game
Sanne Thil Eriksen, head nurse and responsible for the vaccinations, told the broadcaster: “Some of those who were supposed to get a vaccination in the afternoon and evening simply came too early in the hope of getting there faster. Our entire system has fallen under enormously Pressure put on. It was pretty messy. ”
This then had the consequence that the vaccinated people, who actually arrived on time, had to stand in line. When asked why some came so early, they said: “We want to go home and watch football.”
“It was very unfortunate and inappropriate and we would like to urge everyone to be on time,” said Eriksen. This is the only way to guarantee the process. “We told them how we saw it and then had them come in the order they were in line.” If they had been asked to come back later, this could have caused even greater logistical problems, as there were always traffic problems in the area around the vaccination center. According to Sanne Thil Eriksen, there were traffic jams in both directions to the center.
People who are vaccinated should come on time
“Some lost patience, but all we could do was apologize. We did everything to get people through quickly.”
Every day around 3,000 people would be vaccinated – and the next Denmark game will take place on Saturday. Then Denmark and Wales will fight for a place in the EM quarter-finals. The kick-off is at 6 p.m. – however, the vaccination center closes an hour earlier. Eriksen therefore recommends arriving punctually for the vaccination appointment or booking a new appointment if this is not compatible with the European Championship game.
In Denmark, according to data from Friday, 54.5 percent of the population have been vaccinated at least once. 30.3 percent are fully vaccinated.
