Eintracht Frankfurt will have to do without Martin Hinteregger in the final spurt of the season and thus also in the Europa League final on May 18 against Glasgow Rangers. The 29-year-old from Carinthia injured his thigh in Thursday’s semi-final second leg against West Ham United (1-0) and will not be able to play in the remaining games of the season.
Eintracht’s defense chief was only absent earlier this week due to illness, but was determined to play the second leg against West Ham. According to trainer Oliver Glasner, Hinteregger suffered a “major muscle injury”. The defender will continue to be close to the team. “Martin will play an important role for us until the final, even if he can’t play. He always takes a player to the side in the dressing room and gives them advice,” said Glasner on Friday.
In addition to Eintracht, Hinteregger’s injury is also bad news for the ÖFB. The first international matches under the leadership of the new team boss Ralf Rangnick will increase as part of the Nations League, when in June it will be against Croatia (3rd/away), Denmark (6th/home, 13th/away) and France (10th/home ) goes. The involvement of Hinteregger currently seems hard to imagine.
