Eintracht Frankfurt has reached the final of the Europa League, RB Leipzig made it to the semifinals. This ensures great interest and high TV ratings.
Not only since the sensational triumphs of Eintracht Frankfurt over FC Barcelona and West Ham United have football fans in Germany shown interest in the Uefa Europa League. Last year, around 59 percent of the people surveyed as part of the European Football Benchmark confirmed that they were interested in the European football competition. This contrasts with around 16 percent who are rather disinterested. Another 23 percent of the survey participants are indifferent to the Europa League. Even if no German club has won here since the Uefa Cup was rebranded as part of the Europa League in 2009, the Germans do not seem to be losing interest.
This is confirmed by the TV ratings. The broadcaster RTL achieved top ratings with Eintracht’s game against West Ham on Thursday evening. An average of 6.63 million viewers watched the second half of the game, which corresponded to a market share of 28.9 percent.

The Europa League has always been the “little sister” of the Champions League, with a weaker European field of participants and therefore also significantly less prestigious. That’s probably why around 14 percent of those interested in football find it unimportant. However, about 15 percent of all respondents consider European competitions to be more important than national ones. The final victory in the Champions League is viewed by 41 percent as the greatest success in professional football.
