FC Juniors Oberösterreich will play their last home game this season against Kapfenberg – and it will probably be their last in the second division for a long time. As is well known, the club will voluntarily retire to the regional league in the summer and will form a syndicate with the LASK amateur team in order to formally have regional league status. “We want to get another three points at home,” says FC Juniors Upper Austria President Franz Mayer. In recent weeks, his team has gotten better and better, is unbeaten in three games and has recently celebrated two wins. “The pressure is off, the lads are now showing what they’re capable of without stress.” And of course they want to present themselves well – be it for the second team of LASK or other stations: Ralf Muhr, who will work as technical director of the black and white team from June 1st, has already had the first player talks.
Last season the match between FC Blau-Weiss Linz and FC Liefering was the final for the championship title. But today’s game in the 2nd soccer league, two rounds before the end of the season, is of enormous importance for Blue and White coach Gerald Scheiblehner this year: “At the beginning of the season, our goal was to end up in secure midfield after the upheaval in the summer. Then we corrected it to a top five place, in winter the team even set itself a goal of a top three place. We can now turn a strong season into a very strong one.” Today is the last time the Linzers can say goodbye to their own fans as reigning champions with a win.
poachers in the west
Blue and white finally wants to play for the championship title in the coming season – the gaze has long been directed to the future: Ronivaldo, who is still Innsbruck striker, has been made an offer, the new signing in the storm has absolute priority. And you could also find other positions in the West: If Altach were relegated to the Bundesliga, some Upper Austrian kickers would be free – like ex-Blau-Weiss kicker Stefan Haudum.
Forward Steyr is also looking to the future ahead of today’s duel in Dornbirn. “There will certainly not be such a big upheaval as in the past few years. We want to improve the team in certain areas,” says coach Daniel Madlener.
